The Shard Makes the Shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize

The tallest building in western Europe, The Shard in London is among the shortlisted designs up for a major architecture prize. The skyscraper is joined on the Riba Stirling Prize shortlist by Zaha Hadid’s London Aquatics Centre which was showcased in the 2012 Olympics. The two designs are among six other architecture projects aiming to win the prestigious architecture industry award this year- it’s the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA’s) highest accolade. Also in the running are the revamped Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, the Library of Birmingham, the London School of Economics and Manchester School of Art.

This prize is awarded to RIBA-chartered architects and international fellows of the institute for their work on a building in the UK or elsewhere in the EU. The shortlisted structures vary in size but are all judged by the same criteria which is design excellence, their significance to the evolution of architecture and the built environment.
